SightRight dart training aid for perfect dart vision!

SightRight works in 4 easy steps to give Perfect Dart Vision so you can position yourself exactly on the oche time and time again. The patented design guarantees perfect sighting and, through letting dart players actually see if they are off line, SightRight prevents sighting across the line aim (like 99% of TV dart professionals).

Many dart players unknowingly set themselves up at the number 5 when aiming for treble 20. Each player’s sighting position will be different. However, once you're SightRight’d, your technique and biomechanics will develop a symmetrical throw with no side bias on the dartboard i.e. Double 16 and Double 10 will feel the same. SightRight straightens up the path of your darts into the dartboard dramatically reducing blocked doubles and trebles.

SightRight Instructions:

Centre the SightRight - use the plumb line to get the white SightRight line centre to the bullseye (See FIG 1). Place the SightRight darts aid with the lower end of the ‘Step’ nearest the wall. SightRight is designed to make you stand in exactly the same place, with perfect dart vision time and time again.

1. Take your normal position at the oche then look at the SightRight - what do you see? (See FIG 2)
   
   
   1. Can you see a broken or kinked line or
   2. Can you see a continuous straight white line? 
   
   
   
   
   
   
2. Re-position yourself so that you can only see a perfect straight line (See FIG 3) and start to throw at the treble 20. You are looking to get straight darts into the board from your new throwing position. Don’t worry (yet) about where they land, just how straight they are, on entry and flight.
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
3. If you are happy that your darts are straight and you are playing from your SightRight’d aiming position, continue to play and practice as normal as much as you can with your SightRight. You may need to re-train the feel and weight in your throw. The bigger the correction in your sighting and position at the oche, the more you will notice the difference in the weight of your throw.

TIP: Once your aiming has been corrected, pay close attention to your NEW foot position at the oche. This will allow you to be SightRight’d when playing without the aid in competitions, etc.

SIGHTRIGHT FAQ:

What about aiming for doubles?

Once SightRight’d you do not need to move - turn towards the double/treble/single you want to hit and your body will pivot perfectly, left or right, like shooting a gun. You will have to train the new weight of your throw, as you’re now symmetrical to every point on the dartboard, as opposed to throwing from different distances. You will no longer have short and long ‘opposite’ doubles which makes it easier to hit them. Your darts should now be straight going into the double bed dramatically reducing blocked doubles. (See FIG 4).

My darts are still not straight?
You’re probably still slightly off line technically in your throw and that needs correcting. Stand more side on to the dartboard until your darts straighten - your foot may end up at 90 degrees to the oche. The effect of turning your foot ‘side on’ will bring your throwing arm into line with your eyes.

Darts still not straight after changing your stance?
Now that you’re sighting and technique are perfectly in line, check that your grip and hand angle are not affecting your throw. Go back to basics - hold the dart like you would a pen pointing straight down the target line.

Your back swing and throw.
You may need to control / shorten your back swing to ensure you throw the dart from in front of your eyes i.e. not from the side of your head. This will help to develop an accurate throw in front of your eyes and enable you to actually start seeing along the flight of the dart as you improve. Some players may prefer shorter shafts to keep their throw in front of their eyes. The easiest way to get the dart position in front of your eyes, is to look into a mirror holding your darts.

Winmau sign Australia's HOTTEST dart talent ... Simon "The Wizard" Whitlock!

Simon Whitlock - the darting wizard who blew the roof off the Alexandra Palace in 2010 with his blockbusting high checkout finishes and devastating power scoring is a man on a mission.

After mostly plying his trade in his native Australia, Simon is now fully committed to playing the full PDC tour. Great news for dart fans - who will now get to see more of this highly talented and explosive player, but not so good news for opposition players - who will no doubt soon be wishing that this brilliant darting wizard would walk up the yellow brick all the way back to the land of Oz.

How to set up a dartboard

One of the most common of all questions from our dart customers is how to set up a dartboard. 

By 'setting up a dartboard' we mean the correct height and distance a dartboard needs to be placed from the OCHE. Oche, pronounced ‘Okey’, is often referred to as the ‘throwing line’, ‘throw line’ or ‘toe-line’. The oche is the distance marker from the face of the dartboard where a player stands, with their toe or foot on or behind the Oche, not over it, whilst throwing their darts.

If you have just taken delivery of a new dartboard you will find the package contains a little plastic bag full of little hardware tid bits and screws. This is the dartboard mounting kit. If you have purchased or been given a second hand dartboard more than likely will need to purchase a new dartboard mounting kit unless the people you got the dartboard from were nice enough to supply the original mounting kit as well. If you weren't supplied a dartboard mounting kit, don't despair, any good dart supply shop will have dartboard mounting brackets available as a spare part. Spare dartboard mounting brackets not only replace original missing brackets, but also allows you to have your dartboard in different areas of your home, inside during winter, outside during summer!

The standard dartboard mounting kit includes a wall mount fixing bracket, short stubby dartboard screw, leaf springs, leaf spring nails or tacks and long wall bracket fixing screws. First nail the leaf springs to the back of the dartboard 7 1/4 inches (180mm) from the centre screw hole and at the 20, 8 and 10 number segments. Holding the dartboard on its edge will make it easy to pencil mark the 20, 8 and 10 positions on the back of the dartboard. The leaf springs act as little shock absorbing stabilisers so the dartboard doesn't bang and slam against the wall when hit by darts, as well as, helping to reduce dart barrel fatigue and impact noise. 

Next, screw in the shorter stubby screw to the centre of the back of the dartboard, you will see a pre-drilled hole so you don't need to try and measure this position. Leave about 3-4 mm of thread between the back of the dartboard and the bottom of the screw head to allow for hooking into the dartboard mounting bracket. If necessary, you can adjust the screw depth once the mounting bracket is in place.

Depending on where you are going to mount your dartboard you will need either 2 x wall plugs for a solid brick wall, or suitable fixings for a dry wall or plasterboard wall. These are available from you local hardware store. Measure 5 foot 8 inches (173cm or 1.73 meters) from the floor and put a pencil mark at the measurement. Hold the wall mounting bracket against the wall with the bottom of the 'U' cut-out about 2mm below the pencil mark. Mark the 2 wall bracket mounting hole positions on either side of the 'U'. Drill small pilot holes at these marks to avoid mis-drilling then drill the wall plug holes for the mounting bracket. Insert wall plugs, or dry wall fixings, then using the 2 long screws, in the mounting kit, fix the mounting bracket into position, with the flat side of the bracket against the wall.

Place the dartboard back centre screw in the U cut out of the mounting bracket and check for stability. The board should be a snug fit against the wall and without any wobble. If necessary you can adjust the dartboard back mounting screw to achieve a firm and stable fit.
